Local "Hoosier Pete" Owner Passes

Mr.  Donavon Oscar Kieser

Donavon Oscar Kieser, 93, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away at the Lutheran Community Home on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 3:10 a.m. Mr. Kieser was born on December 18, 1916, in Armstrong, Illinois, the son of Oscar and Jessie (Farnsworth) Kieser. He was a 1937 graduate of Shields High School and attended Franklin College. Donavon married Norma Etheline Preuss on November 18, 1937, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. He was owner/operator of Hoosier Pete Filling Stations for 20 years and worked for Amoco Chemical until his retirement in 1981.
Mr. Kieser was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as usher. He also belonged to the Braille Society. His hobbies included raising pigeons and pitching horseshoes.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, of 72 years; 3 sons: Donavon (Deanna) Kieser and David (Cheryl) Kieser, all of Seymour, Steve Kieser, of Bobtown; 8 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
His parents; a son, William Kieser; a sister, Doris Wise and a granddaughter, Adrienne Kieser preceded him in death.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Burkholder Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, officiating.
Visitation will be held at Burkholder Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 16, 2010 from 4 until 8 p.m. and from 9:30 until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran High School or to the donor’s choice.
