Omer Frederick Dettmer, 95, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away at the Lutheran Community Home on July 31, 2010 at 5:45 p.m. Mr. Dettmer was born on January 18, 1915 in Bartholomew County, the son of Henry W. and Sophia Louise (Pottschmidt) Dettmer. Omer was married to Hilda Marie Kiewitt on June 11, 1939 at Dudleytown, IN. He was employed as a model maker for Arvin Industries from 1937-1948, and then worked as a milk route driver for 8 years. He returned to Arvin Industries in 1956, retiring in 1980, after 35 years of service.
Mr. Dettmer was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, White Creek having served as Sunday School Superintendant, Elder, Chairman and Trustee. He was active in the Lutheran Layman’s League, Senior League, Dart-ball League and a member of Farm Bureau. Omer enjoyed woodworking, gardening, farming and his family.
Omer is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hilda; 4 children; Linda L. (Pierre) Gardiner, of Costa Mesa, CA; Ernie D. (Donna) Dettmer of Columbus, Elizabeth Jean Jack, of Costa Mesa, CA and Kathy E. Kettler of Roselle, IL, Grandchildren; Carrie Dettmer, Jill (Derek) Harris, Ryan Gardiner, Amanda (Phillip) Roggow, Todd Jack, Kathrine “Katie” (Anthony) Morford and Bradley “Brad” Kettler; Great-grandchildren, Zander and Quinn Roggow.
His parents, daughter; Sharon Kaye Dettmer, twin granddaughters; Kellie and Julie Jack, his son-in-law; Chaplain Edward Jack and a brother; Raymond Dettmer, and an infant sister preceded him in death.

Funeral Information

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, White Creek with Rev. Joshua Cook, officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Lutheran Community Home Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery-White Creek after the service.
