Former Immanuel Lutheran School secretary passes
Doris Marie Chandler, 89, of Seymour, IN, passed away at Covered Bridge Health Campus, lovingly surrounded by her children, on February 13, 2012 at 8:50 p.m. Doris was born on February 21,1922 in Seymour, the daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Kleinmeyer) Schmidt. She graduated from Shields High School in 1940. Doris married Olen B. Chandler in Seymour on June 9, 1946. He passed away February 15, 1968. She served as secretary at Immanuel Lutheran School in Seymour, for over 25 years, retiring in 1991.
Mrs. Chandler was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was also a member of Immanuel Guild, Immanuel Lutheran Braille Group and a Red Cross volunteer.
She is survived by 3 children: Linda (Robert) Emily, Carol Hunsucker and Randy Chandler; grandchildren: Mike (Sallie) Emily, Scott Hunsucker, Elisabeth (George) Tatom and Andy Hunsucker; 2 sisters: Lois Vowinkel and Helen Schmitt. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers: Maurice, Carl and Ralph Schmidt; a cousin, Elda Schmidt.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, 419 N. Chestnut St., Seymour, with. Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, Rev. Philip Bloch and Rev. James Rodriguez officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, and on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery after the service.
