Former WWII Air Force Pilot passes
Edwin Alexander MacAslan, 92, of Willow Springs, MO formerly of Columbus, IN, passed away at his home on February 11, 2012 at 12:15 a.m. EST. Edwin was born on August 8, 1919, in Bruce, Wisconsin, the son of David and Murriel (Sprague) MacAslan. He was married to Kathryn Louise Klinge in Topeka, KS on May 25, 1944. She passed away February 6, 2010. On December 29, 2010 he married B. Naomi Wisdom in Willow Springs, MO and she survives.
Mr. MacAslan was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus, IN. He served during WWII in the U. S. Air Force from 1943 – 1946. He trained at Freeman Field in Seymour, IN. Edwin flew B-24’s and had 35 combat missions over Europe during that time. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 34 years of service in 1990. He also farmed during his career.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Naomi MacAslan; 3 sons: Russell W. (Sandra) MacAslan, David F. Caslan and Chris A. (Nancy) MacAslan; a daughter, Bobby (Jerry York) Gray; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. His parents, first wife, a son, Ronald MacAslan and a sister, Helen Piper preceded him in death.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dudleytown, IN. with Rev. Michael Malinsky and Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Burkholder Funeral Chapel and on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will take place at Emanuel Church Cemetery after the service.
