Mrs. Hilda Marie Dettmer

March 25, 1920 - November 25, 2011

Hilda Marie Dettmer, 91, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away at Lutheran Community Home on November 25, 2011 at 6:20 a.m. Hilda was born on March 25, 1920, in Jackson County, IN, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Klinge) Kiewitt. Hilda married Omer Frederick Dettmer on June 11, 1939, in Dudleytown, Indiana. Omer passed away July 31, 2010 after 71 years of marriage. In her teen years she worked for the Irwin family in Columbus and enjoyed many years of friendship with them. She also served as a cook for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.
Mrs. Dettmer was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, White Creek, LWML, she taught Sunday school for over 20 years and was known as the “Cookie Lady” to many of the congregation
She is survived by her children: Linda L. (Pierre) Gardiner of Costa Mesa, CA, Ernie D. (Donna) Dettmer of Columbus, Elizabeth Jean Jack of Chandler, AZ, and Kathy E. Kettler of Roselle, IL; grandchildren: Carrie Dettmer, Jill (Derek) Harris, Ryan Gardiner, Amanda (Phillip) Roggow, Todd Jack, Katherine “Katie” (Anthony) Morford and Bradley “Brad” Kettler; great grandchildren: Zander and Quinn Roggow
Her parents, husband, a daughter, Sharon Kaye Dettmer, twin granddaughters, Kellie and Julie Jack; son-in-law, Chaplain Edward Jack and a brother, Richard Kiewitt preceded her in death.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at St John’s Lutheran Church, White Creek, with Rev. Joshua Cook officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, November 28, at Burkholder Funeral Chapel and on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will take place at the White Creek Church cemetery after the service.
