Don Whitney, 69, of Seymour, and Silver Springs, FL, passed away at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour on February 09, 2010 at 7:47 p.m. Mr. Whitney was born on March 26, 1940 in Cleveland, OH, the son of Myron L. Whitney and Fern V. (Booker) Whitney-England. He was a 1957 graduate of Tampico High School. Don worked as a quality engineer from 1958 until his retirement in1988 at Cummins Engine Company. He returned to Cummins as a quality engineer consultant from 1990 until 2000. His memberships include Seymour Elks Lodge # 462, Seymour Moose Lodge #418 serving as Administrator from 2001 until 2007, Eagles Lodge of Seymour, American Legion Post #89, Catholic Men’s Club of the Seymour Knights of Columbus. Don was also a founding member of the Columbus American Kennel Club. Don’s hobbies included raising and showing German Shepherd dogs, golf and music, especially singing karaoke.
Mr. Whitney is survived by his long time companion of 19 years, Vickie Burrell; 3 daughters: Debra (David) Schill of Crothersville, Donna (Kevin) Lowe of Lexington, KY and Diane (Scott) Altemeyer of Seymour; 4 grandchildren: Adam and Leah Schill of Crothersville, Erin May of Louisville, KY and Bryan May of Brownstown; 2 brothers: James Whitney of Scottsburg and Claude (Martha) Morgan of Crothersville; a sister, Mary (Dave) Pitchers of Haven, KS
His parents, a daughter, Teresa Shawn Whitney and a grandson, Bryce Burton preceded him in death.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Bruce Cochran, officiating.
Visitation will also be held on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Upon Don’s request, cremation rites will be accorded after the services.
