Mrs. Katherine Louise Noelker

Seymour's Zion Lutheran Church Charter Member passes

Katherine Louise Noelker, 92, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away at her home on February 26, 2010 at 2:10 p.m. Mrs. Noelker was born on October 24, 1917 in Seymour, Indiana, the daughter of Edward L. and Emma M. Borgman Newkirk. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Shields High School in 1935. As a young girl, Katherine worked at Prices Confectionary on North Chestnut Street.. Prior to her marriage, she was a dental assistant to the late Dr. R.J. Miller and an accounts clerk at the Public Services Co. On April 27, 1946, Katherine was married to Willis J. Noelker. He passed away on March 22, 1997. She and her husband enjoyed their travels together to the Holy Land, Hawaii, Florida and California. Katherine also enjoyed oil painting and needlework. According to Katherine, she “was uncomfortable in the kitchen but handy with a needle and thread.”
Katherine was active in her community and church, having served as an officer for many organizations. She was a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of Lutheran Community Home Auxiliary, the Ladies Guild at Zion Lutheran Church and a volunteer for Lutheran Braille Worker’s. Katherine also delivered “Meal On Wheels” for many years, since its inception, and was a member of the Bible- A-Month Club for the American Bible Society. She also participated with the Lutheran Hour Ministries for many years.
Mrs. Noelker is survived by two sons; Philip J. ( Teresa) Noelker, of Brownstown, and James (Cecily) Noelker, of Seymour, a daughter; Julia K.Leighty, of Tulsa, OK, 7 Grandchildren, Jane Leighty Baker, of Jenks, OK, Edward “Ted” A. (Meredith) Leighty, John A. Leighty, both of Denver CO. Alison M. Noelker, of Providence RI, Candice O. Noelker, of Grafton, WI., James E. “Jay” Noelker, Philip M.”Mitch” Noelker, both of Brownstown, 3 Great Grandchildren; Haeden and Cade Wells, of Jenks, OK., and Katherine Cooper Leighty, of Denver CO., her sisters; Marguerite Nolting, of Seymour, and Ella May (Norman) Ulrich, of La Grange, IL, a brother; Rabel (Ruth) Newkirk, of Seymour, a sister-in-law; Ruth Bucher, of Gibson City, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband and a Grandson; John William Noelker, and brothers-in-law; Dr. Earl Bucher, and Harvard Nolting preceded her in death.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jeffrey Stuckwisch, officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, from 4:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Community Home and on Wednesday ,at the church, one hour prior to services..
Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery after the funeral service.
